Philharmonie (Grande salle Pierre Boulez)
With around 500 concerts including some 150 symphonic evenings, it is impossible to detail the entire 2019-2020 season of the Philharmonie de Paris. With the acoustics recognized as one of the best in the world, the Parisian theater offers a programming bursting with highlights!
It has become a habit to organize the season around a few theme weekends like the one dedicated to the great composer Steve Reich, master of repetitive music, Philip Glass's qatsi trilogy or the weekend around Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht with the voice of Lambert Wilson. On the occasion of his birthday, Beethoven is the great composer to be celebrated in 2020. An institution like the Philharmonie has a duty to program significant events and this is done with the complete symphonies conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the head of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Other symphonies are programmed with renowned conductors such as Simon Rattle, Riccardo Chailly, Jordu Savall and Philippe Jordan or the complete sonatas by Daniel Barenboim on piano. You must quickly book your show tickets to avoid seeing the events sold out. The wonderful acoustics of the room lends itself particularly well to the piano. The prestigious recitals are very numerous this season 2019-2020 and it is also necessary to reserve your places without delay for the recitals of Maurizio Pollini, Nelson Freire, András Schiff or Murray Perahia like those of Hélène Grimaud, Yuja Wang or the sensitive Alexandre Tharaud.
The arrival of Martha Argerich always creates the event. She performs in duet with the superb cellist Mischa Maisky and plays the Chopin Concerto with Antonio Pappano. The great English conductor appears with his orchestra, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
Numerous prestigious ensembles appear on stage at the Philharmonie de Paris, such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with the magnificent conductor Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, the Budapest Festival Orchestra with Iván Fischer (in Beethoven concertos with András Schiff). The Hungarian maestro is featuring in another Mozart concert performed by Isabelle Faust and Tabea Zimmermann with the prodigious Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. Simon Rattle conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in Berg and Beethoven with an outstanding cast (Lisa Batiashvili, Elsa Dreisig, Pavol Breslik).
Also noteworthy are the presence of living legends among the conductors such as Riccardo Muti (with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta or Herbert Blomsted or other famous maestros, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Paavo Järvi, Alain Altinoglu, Teodor Currentzis, Tugan Sokhiev … His elder, Valery Gergiev conducts the Münchner Philharmoniker, the Mariinsky and the Orchestre de Paris.
A special year is approaching for one of the best French orchestras that has not had an artistic director since the departure of Daniel Harding. It will no doubt be among the conductors present this season that its members will find their next director. And why not François-Xavier Roth who also appears with Les Siècles this season 2019-2020? It is necessary to reserve your concert tickets without delay as well as for the residency training that completes this great year (such as Mikko Franck's concerts at the head of the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra).
The greatest voices are evidently also at the rendezvous! Jonas Kaufmann, Diana Damrau, Cecilia Bartoli, Matthias Goerne, Juan Diego Flórez, Sabine Devieilhe, Barbara Hannigan and Javier Camarena, an exceptional poster that rivals the great soloists. Isabelle Faust, Renaud Capuçon, Maxim Vengerov, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Gautier Capuçon without forgetting Bertrand Chamayou and Khatia Buniatishvili who are also on board! Baroque music concerts bring the finishing touch to this grand season with William Christie, John Eliot Gardiner, René Jacobs, Jordi Savall (who directs Beethoven) Hervé Niquet or Raphaël Pichon. All you have to do is reserve your tickets without delay!
