"The greatest Violetta since Callas", is how a German journalist described the performance of the Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, after a performance of La Traviata at the Berlin Staatsoper.
Her career has taken off in recent years, without any real surprise for those who had spotted her in Maestro William Christie's Garden of Voices. Before conquering the great stages, Sonya Yoncheva assiduously frequented the baroque repertoire, laying the foundations of a perfect vocal technique and rubbing shoulders with the great roles of the operas of Monteverdi, Rameau or Handel.
The versatility of her vocal expression is a blessing for lovers of opera without borders, because she does not forget the baroque heroines and adds the great roles of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Massenet and Gounod to her repertoire. Each role is remarkable, like this Lucia at the Paris Opera or the unforgettable Mimí at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Each appearance is to be watched, because Sonya Yoncheva is without a doubt one of the most exciting sopranos of her generation.
