Teatro alla Scala

December 7th is the best-known date for music lovers all over the world because they know it's the opening of Milan's famous Teatro alla Scala, the Opera House. It is always advisable to book your opera tickets urgently especially this season as the great Anna Netrebko is starring in Tosca, Puccini's huge masterpiece. The famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan is a must for great singers. It is not surprising to meet Anja Harteros as Aleksandra Kurzak, Marina Rebeka, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Bejun Mehta or Erwin Schrott in recital.
The divine soprano Sabine Devieilhe is accompanied on the piano by Alexandre Tharaud. The greatest pianists often perform at La Scala such as Maurizio Pollini or Lang Lang, who plays Bach's Goldberg Variations this year. The available places are to reserved as soon as possible. Also great symphonic conductor, musical director Riccardo Chailly ensures the programming of concerts. This season 2019-2020, he invited John Eliot Gardiner to direct Berlioz's The Childhood of Christ.
The great conductor Riccardo Muti returns to La Scala with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Other great conductors such as Iván Fischer with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Christian Thielemann with the famous Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden are also present this season 2019-2020. Other equally extravagant concerts of the Filarmonica della Scala are directed by Riccardo Chailly, artistic director of Teatro alla Scala of Milan of course but also by Zubin Mehta, Myung-Whun Chung or Gianandrea Noseda.
A great Verdi concert that brings together Plácido Domingo, Saioa Hernández, Jorge de Leon and Ferruccio Furlanetto is worth mentioning.
The season of classical concerts is prestigious like that of ballet. Classics such as Sylvia, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake or The Nutcracker are defended by the best Italian company that can be proud to receive the choreographies of masters like George Balanchine, Roland Petit, Rudolf Nureyev, John Neumeier or Kenneth MacMillan. Superstar principal dancers as Roberto Bolle and Svetlana Zakharova are regulars on the scala scene. This season 2019-2020, they dance together in La Dame aux Camélias. You must to buy your tickets as soon as possible if you do not want to miss this milestone of the dance season.
But of course, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan is first and foremost an opera house. This 2019-2020 season offers a wide range of masterpieces. With Tosca, Italian titles are highly anticipated as Giordano's Fedora, which brings together Sonya Yoncheva and Roberto Alagna or Haendel's magnificent Agrippina (with Stéphanie d'Oustrac and in a staging by Robert Carsen). Two very exceptional sopranos share the role of Verdi´s Traviata. Angel Blue and Marina Rebeka are beautifully surrounded by Charles Castronovo, Plácido Domingo or Leo Nucci. Two of Verdi's major works are on the bill with A ballo in maschera conducted by Zubin Mehta or Il Trovatore with Francesco Meli and Liudmyla Monastyrska, among others. The Gioconda of Ponchielli and Rossini with Il Viaggio a Reims and Il turco in Italia complete the list of famous titles. The boldness of the 2019-2020 programming with the rare Amore dei tre re de Montemezzi or Intolleranza 1960 by Nono, directed by Damiano Michieletto, must be emphasized. The German repertoire is in the spotlight with Salome of Strauss directed by Maestro Chailly or Tannhäuser by Wagner with Peter Seiffert, Krassimira Stoyanova or Dorothea Röschmann and Christian Gerhaher. But it is probably the French operas that must be booked as soon as possible. Vittorio Grigòlo and Diana Damrau play Gounod's Roméo et Juliette while Patricia Petibon and Bernard Richter sing Pelléas and Mélisande by Debussy.
A magnificent season that places La Scala of Milan forever at the top of the biggest Opera houses in the world.
