Book your tickets for the 2019-2020 Opera season of Sydney Opera House and the concerts of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

While marching against the use of the Sydney Opera House as a facade for advertising purposes, the Australians showed the attachment they had for their opera. It must be said that the building is an icon that symbolizes the whole nation. To appreciate the hall appropriately, it is essential to reserve seats to attend a performance. This 2019 season, the famous building of Jorn Utzon continues its major renovation that will be fully completed in 2022. Fortunately, the two main halls continue to host on one side operas produced by the great Australian company Opera Australia and the other, the concerts of the famous Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

The new season is a bit special for the orchestra as its artistic director, the great conductor David Robertson will leave the institution at the end of this year 2019. The program he has concocted is even more extravagant since it is his farewell. The great artists pay tribute to the one who invited them to perform classical music at its highest level. This 2019 season, at the Sydney Opera House, with the pianist Kirill Gerstein, he presents a revolutionary series of piano concertos with Grieg, Ravel and Gershwin. At his side the great mezzo Susan Graham interprets the magnificent Songs of the Auvergne of Canteloube. In addition to concerts with Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra and Winton Marsalis' astonishing Symphony No. 4 The Jungle, David Robertson's highlight is undoubtedly the Mozart, Schubert and Berio concert with the international piano superstar Lang Lang, back at his instrument. It should also be noted that the conductor is directing a concert version of Britten's masterpiece Peter Grimes with an excellent cast (Stuart Skelton and Nicole Car). Many other events are also worth noting since the Sydney Symphony Orchestra season is very rich.

On the soloists side, we see the arrival of great performers such as the violinists James Ehnes or Vadim Gluzman, the pianists Paul Lewis, Alexej Volodin, Barry Douglas, Louis Lortie ... On the podium, the generations meet such as the conductor Donald Runnicles and the young and talented Lionel Bringuier. With the baton of the likes of Vladimir Ashkenazy and Mrs. Simone Young, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra also knows how to welcome the talents of today such as the violinist Nemanja Radulovic, the pianist Alessio Bax and Behzod Abduraimov or Yulianna Avdeeva who is back in Sydney, violinist Simone Lamsma and cellist Andreas Brantelid.

To be complete, we should also mention Wynton Marsalis' arrival with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in a Duke Ellington and Count Basie program or the splendid soprano Emma Matthews who sings Mozart's airs.

On the opera side, the Sydney Opera House understandably hosts opera performances and the 2019 season promises to be just as rich with an interplanetary event. The lyric superstar comes to Sydney for two performances in a concert version of Andrea Chénier of Giordano. The great tenor Jonas Kaufmann is splendidly surrounded by Eva-Maria Westbroek in the poignant role of Maddalena and Ludovic Tézier who plays the dark Carlo Gerard. You should reserve places urgently to attend this performance. Another great tenor is playing a masterpiece this 2019 season at the Sydney Opera House. Michael Fabiano embodies the dark hero Werther in the opera composed by Massenet directed by Elijah Moshinsky. Many famous stage directors present their productions. Damiano Michieletto remains faithful to Rossini with Il Viaggio in Reims. The Scottish David McVicar is always a sensation especially with Mozart's Nozze di Figaro directed here by Guillaume Tourniaire. The beautiful soprano Maija Kovalevska who creates emotion in Mozart shares the role of Mimi in Puccini's Bohemia with Joyce El-Khoury while Lise Lindstrom embodies the sulphurous Salome. Other great acclaimed voices in the world, Ermonela Jaho is Anna Bolena of Donizetti facing Sonia Ganassi in Giovanna Seymour.

Great masterpieces are on display, such as the imposing Turandot or Puccini's sublime Madama Butterfly. Places should always be reserved as soon as possible to obtain tickets. Opera Australia visits the more sophisticated repertoires but always with quality productions as with Wozzeck, Berg's masterpiece directed by William Kentridge. Baroque opera is not forgotten with Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria or Vivaldi's brilliant Farnace. Valer Sabadus recognized countertenor comes to Sydney for a recital with works by Hasse, Porpora and Vivaldi. Nicole Car, the Australian international soprano star also gives a recital with French melodies in the company of her husband, the famous Quebec baritone Etienne Dupuis. Last but not least at the Sydney Opera House, Bernstein's perfect musical, West Side Story. In the fall in March/April, Sydney Bay hosts another production of Bernstein's masterpiece (by Francesca Zambello), performed outdoors with as background decor the iconic opera and harbor bridge.
