He continues his cycle of French music by directing Carmen himself in the interesting staging of Martin Kusej with four great artists on the bill, the exceptional Anita Rachvelishvili, the sexy Michael Fabiano and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo and the perfect Christiane Karg. An explosive meeting! Another appointment for which your operatic seats should be reserved is the new production of Nicolai's opera Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor with the magnificent René Pape in Falstaff. In concert at both the Berlin Philharmonie and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Daniel Barenboim is leading the Staatskapelle Berlin on various occasions for the 450-year anniversary season. His stage partners are prestigious like Lahav Shani, Lisa Batiashvili, Renaud Capuçon or Elina Garanca. He will reencounter the flamboyant mezzo for the event of the season with the Samson and Dalila by Saint-Saëns with also the great voices of Brandon Jovanovich, Michael Volle and Samuel Ramey. At the opera, as accomplished Wagnerian, he directs Wagner's Tetralogy in the production of Guy Cassiers. The poster is beautiful (Michael Volle, Irena Theorin, Anja Kampe, Andreas Schager, Ekaterina Gubanova, Simon O'Neill as well as the prestigious Der Fliegende Holländer with Matthias Goerne and Ricarda Merbeth). The cast of the Falstaff by Verdi, which Barenboim directs, is also remarkable (Lucio Gallo, Barbara Frittoli, Alfredo Daza, Daniela Barcellona, Nadine Sierra, Francesco Demuro).
But the highlight is unquestionably Mozart's Così fan tutte with Elsa Dreisig and Marianne Crebassa. Daniel Barenboim had the excellent idea to program a special series at Easter. During the Festtage, you must book your opera tickets as soon as possible to attend one of the most anticipated shows this season 2019-2020. Così fan tutte is also the only programmed opera that announces a future Mozart-Da Ponte cycle. The famous Festtage for which it is important to book your tickets as soon as possible is almost entirely devoted to Beethoven's symphonies. This is the great year of Beethoven. Daniel Barenboim conducts the integrale at the Berlin Philharmonie and the Symphony No. 9 at the Staatsoper unter den Linden for the New Year. The other outstanding concerts are conducted by Herbert Blomstedt, Zubin Mehta or Antonio Pappano with the great names of András Schiff, Martha Argerich or the extraordinary Yuja Wang. Another festival called Barocktage features great chefs and superb Baroque artists such as Jean Rondeau, Dorothee Oberlinger, Jordi Savall, Fabio Biondi, Ottavio Dantone and René Jacobs who directs Scarlatti's Il primo omicidio and Purcell's King Arthur. The great Baroque event of the season is Mozart's Idomeneo directed by Simon Rattle. David McVicar's production includes a very fine cast with Andrew Staples, Magdalena Kozená, Olga Peretyatko and Anna Prohaska.
Do not forget the highlights of dance with the Staatsballett Berlin, which features masterpieces like La Bayadère by Marius Petipa or Jewels by George Balanchine and also the choreographies by Sasha Waltz, Alexander Ekman or Emanuel Gat. With productions such as The Nozze di Figaro by Mozart directed by Marc Minkowski, Rigoletto with Christopher Maltman and Aida Garifullina, Die Zauberflöte with Julian Prégardien, Ausrine Stundyte's Salome, Káta Kabanová where Eva-Maria Westbroek and Karita Mattila face each other. Puccini's beautiful Bohème (with Eleonora Buratto, Benjamin Bernheim and Elsa Dreisig), the reprise of Prokofiev's Betrothal in a Monastery in the staging of Dmitri Tcherniakov, Plácido Domingo on the poster of Verdi's La Traviata, Renée Fleming´s recitals, Angela Gheorghiu or Philippe Jaroussky, Sonya Yoncheva's amazing Medea, the beautiful Rosenkavalier with Camilla Nylund, Michele Losier, Nadine Sierra and René Pape, or an enticing Beethoven Fidelio, it is urgent to reserve your places for the Staatsoper Unter den Linden from Berlin.
