What to do in Berlin

Two museums are a must: the Altes Museum and the Neues Museum. For art lovers: the Alte Nationalgallerie offers a magnificent collection of Romantic, neoclassical and Impressionist works.

Don't forget to see the Bundestag, Berlin's parliament building, with its impressive glass dome. Admire the neoclassical architecture at the Brandenburg Gate, as well as on Gendarmermarkt square with the Konzerthaus, Deutscher Dom and Französischer Dom! Don't forget to visit Charlottenburg Palace, a Prussian jewel!

For park lovers, take a stroll through the Tiergarten! Have lunch at Berlin's television tower - the view is breathtaking!

Berlin and music

Berlin has over 138 museums and 400 art galleries, as well as 6 major concert halls and opera houses! For you music lovers, Berlin is a real gem!

1 - The Deutsche Oper was inaugurated in 1961. The opera house has no individual boxes for a more "democratic" theatre. Even today, the view of the stage is optimised. Every year, the Deutsche Oper delights us with its varied repertoire of "classical" operas and ballets, as well as more modern creations.

2 - The Staatsoper Unter den Linden, an opera house opened in 1742 by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, has attracted many composers and conductors, including Richard Strauss and Karl Muck.

3 - The Konzerthaus Berlin, a symbol of neoclassical architecture, stands on the site of the National Theatre, which was destroyed by fire. It was inaugurated in 1722. Severely damaged during the Allied bombing raids, the building was rebuilt between 1979 and 1984. Every season, the Konzerthaus plays host to many of the world's leading orchestras and soloists.

4 - The Berlin Philharmonic is one of the most famous classical concert halls, and its acoustics are perfect. Opened in 1963, it is one of the few concert halls with a central stage. The conductor's podium is placed in the exact centre of the Philharmonie, offering the spectator not only an exceptional view but also sound of astounding perfection. The conductor and musical director of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (Berliner Philharmoniker) is Kirill Petrenko, replacing the British conductor Sir Simon Rattle.

5 - The Salle Pierre Boulez was inaugurated at the beginning of March 2017 in honour of Pierre Boulez. The seats form an ellipse around the orchestra and allow you to see well while enjoying excellent acoustics. It's a real source of pride for the Barenboim Academy!

6 - The Staatsballett Berlin, directed by Nacho Duato, offers classical and contemporary dance performances in Berlin's theatres.
