Swan Lake is a ballet in four acts composed in 1876 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with original choreography by Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa. Tchaikovsky's first ballet, it is often considered one of the most emblematic works in the classical repertoire. First performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Swan Lake is a masterly example of the fusion of Romantic music and classical dance, and remains an essential pillar of traditional ballet.
The story takes place in a magical kingdom of legend and enchantment. It tells the tragic story of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette, a princess transformed into a swan by an evil sorcerer. The ballet explores universal themes of love, betrayal and redemption, while showcasing the beauty and virtuosity of classical dance.
