The recommended dress code is evening casual (men are advised to wear long trousers).

Prague had a permanent opera house as of 1681.

Harboring a strong passion for opéra, the city entered music history with pomp at the end of the eighteenth century, when, after having triumphantly welcomed Mozart's NOZZE DI FIGARO, the Viennese composer retumed to premiere his DON GIOVANNI in 1787, which is why Mozart is still on every season’s programme.

The theatre, inaugurated in 1783, was later directed by Weber, and opera is still performed in this house, today called the Statovské Divaldo.

Near the Old City square, it is one of the finest theatres in central Europe.

STORY
THE ENCHANTED FLUTE tells the love story of Prince Tamino and Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night. With the help of Papageno, a talkative but kindly cowardly bird-catcher, Tamino must rescue his beloved from the clutches of Sarastro, the high priest of Isis and Osiris. But appearances are deceptive, and the heroes will all have to undergo trials and tribulations before they find the truth.

Act 1
The young prince Tamino, lost on a journey, struggles with a giant snake before fainting. He is rescued by the Queen of the Night's three mysterious ladies, who disappear. When he wakes up, Papageno the bird-catcher, who was passing by, takes the credit. The three ladies return and punish Papageno. They give Tamino a portrait of Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, with whom he immediately falls in love. The Queen appears and asks the young prince to rescue her daughter from Sarastro, the high priest's prisoner. As a gift, he receives a flute with magical powers and Papageno, a carillon also endowed with powers.
Papageno is the first to arrive at Sarastro's castle, where he finds Pamina in the grip of the horrible Monostatos. Tamino, for his part, finds himself at the door of an officiant who tells him that the Queen of the Nights has tricked him. Pamina is being held for her own good. The two lovers are soon reunited.

Act 2
Accompanied by Papageno, Tamino must prove his worth by triumphing over several tests. Meanwhile, Pamina sees her mother appear, urging her to kill Sarastro. But Sarastro, with great wisdom, manages to dissuade and appease the young girl.
One of the tests requires Tamino to remain silent. Pamina, happy to find the one she loves, is distraught by his reaction and even considers committing the irreparable. As for Papageno, too talkative, he has failed, but he does not aspire to simple happiness. He is looking for his Papagena, who finally appears. All are reunited to pass the final test of fire and water, opening the gates to the temple of wisdom. The Queen of the Night, her ladies and Monostatos are swallowed up in the bowels of the earth. The final chorus salutes the victory of light over the world of darkness.
