Find the complete 2019-2020 Zurich Opera House Season and book your tickets online now.
The Zurich Opera House is not only a charming, human-sized theater, but it has the perfect acoustics to accommodate all opera repertoires. For a long time, the hall has been among the best in the world thanks to audacious and successful productions, always served by exceptional distributions. Is it worth remembering that Cecilia Bartoli has made her home here and that she offers each season a performance of which only she holds the secret? This season, 2019-2020, you have to book your opera tickets as soon as possible because Iphigénie en Tauride de Gluck is an excepcional event. The new production of Andreas Homoki with the magnificent Stéphane Degout in the role of Oreste (with also Frédéric Antoun and Jean-François Lapointe) is a show not to be missed. The great Cecilia Bartoli also features in La Cenerentola de Rossini, one of her favorite roles where she shares the poster with Javier Camarena and Alessandro Corbelli, two great Rossinians. The stars of the opera song follow each other on the stage of the Zurich Opera. The brilliant recitals with Pretty Yende, Krassimira Stoyanova, Benjamin Bernheim and the last diva Angela Gheorghiu among others, is the proof.
Juan Diego Flórez has also become a regular on the scene and appears this season 2019-2020 in the poetic production of La Bohème by Ole Anders Tandberg. One also notices the grand Plácido Domingo in the title role of Nabucco de Verdi. Wagner is admirably served in this Lohengrin with Piotr Beczala and Elza van den Heever. The director of the hall Andreas Homoki signs the stagings of these two masterpieces. Among the new shows on display, Fabio Luisi, the Musical Director of the Zurich Opera, has chosen to lead the new productions of Richard Strauss' Arabella directed by Robert Carsen where he has a superb cast (Julia Kleiter, Josef Wagner, Julie Fuchs, Daniel Behle) and I Vespri Siciliani Verdi's great opera with Bryan Hymel, Maria Agresta, Quinn Kelsey and Alexander Vinogradov. The Master of Italian Opera is a familiar composer of Maestro Luisi who also directs La Traviata, Nabucco and Messa da Requiem. It is not uncommon to see the words sold out on the poster. As always, you must reserve your tickets at the Zurich Opera as soon as possible because there are plenty of magnificent opportunities. With Iphigénie en Tauride and La Bohème, it is quite possible that the places are quickly sold out for the Fidelio of Beethoven. This is the great Beethoven year and the only opera of the great composer enjoys a magnificent cast in Zürich with the exemplary voices of Andreas Schager and Anja Kampe but also the delicate Mélissa Petit. Music lovers should not miss Berg's Wozzeck played by Christian Gerhaher or the Affaire Makropulos by Janácek (Vec Makropulos) directed by Jakub Hrusa and staged by Dmitry Tcherniakov with the radiant Evelyn Herlitzius. Other productions are to be remembered such as Mozart's Don Giovanni with Luca Pisaroni, Die Zauberflöte directed by Sascha Goetzel or the magnificent Viennese operetta, Die Csárdásfürstin by Kálmán with Annette Dasch and Pavol Breslik.
But the Opernhaus Zürich evidently also offers the prestigious concerts directed by Fabio Luisi and also Gianandrea Noseda, Manfred Honeck or Riccardo Minasi who takes the lead of the Baroque Orchestra La Scintilla for Die Schöpfung of Haydn. Laurence Cummings conducts the ensemble for Haendel's Belshazzar staged by Sebastian Baumgarten with the superb Jakub Józef Orlinski. The countertenor is also an outstanding dancer but he will not be on display in the many ballets of the Oper Zürich where one finds the choreographies of Christian Spuck, the master of the place but also of Hans van Manen, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Crystal Pite or William Forsythe. A great luxury, only at Opernhaus Zürich where you have to book your opera tickets quickly.
