
The stage debut of Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian was a veritable revelation.
The daughter of the famous Mariinsky tenor Gegham Grigorian and born into a family of artists, Asmik Grigorian quickly captured attention with her explosive stage energy and unrivalled voice. After her first promising steps at the Vilnius Opera, she promptly joined the Mariinsky troupe, where her talent emerged with flying colours.
Her career quickly took off on the international stage.
Major cities such as Vienna, Barcelona, Paris and Stockholm snapped her up for her striking interpretations in a variety of roles, from Rusalka to Tatiana in Eugène Oneguin, via Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly), not forgetting her masterful performances in works by Richard Strauss, Korngold and Berg. Prestigious festivals such as the Salzburger Festspiele offer her brilliant opportunities, and iconic venues such as Covent Garden, the Vienna Staatsoper and the Bayerische Staatsoper open their doors to her with enthusiasm.

Biography
Born in Vilnius into a family of opera artists, Asmik Grigorian has been a soloist with the Vilnius City Opera since its inception in 2006.
Asmik Grigorian has made a name for himself on the concert and opera stages since his international career began with a triumphant performance in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Swedish Opera.
She then performed to conquer role after role, including: Salome at the Salzburg Festival, Fedora at the Royal Swedish Opera, Marie in Wozzeck at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Manon Lescaut at the Frankfurt Opera and the Bolshoi Theatre, Marietta in Korngold's Die tote Stadt at the Teatro alla Scala, Iolanta at the Oper Frankfurt, Cio-Cio San at the Wiener Staatsoper, Chrysothemis in Elektra at the Salzburger Festspiele, Rusalka at the Teatro Real Madrid, Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd at the Vilnius Municipal Opera, and Senta in Der Fliegende Hollander at the Bayreuth Festspiele.
In concert, she has performed Shostakovich 14 with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Alexander Shelley, and Beethoven IX under Riccardo Muti at the Salzburg Festival.
Asmik has worked with many world-renowned conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, Vasily Petrenko, Franz Welser-Möst, Yves Abel, Vladimir Jurowski, Markus Stenz, Mikhail Tatarnikov, Alan Gilbert and Michael Tilson Thomas.
And she frequently collaborates with top stage directors, including Dmitri Tcherniakov, Romeo Castellucci, Claus Guth, Dalia Ibelhauptaitė, Christof Loy, Barrie Kosky, Alex Ollé, Peter Konwitschny, Robert Wilson and Vasily Barkhatov.
She has twice received the Golden Stage Cross (the highest award for singers in Lithuania): in 2005, for her debut in the title role of La Traviata, and in 2016, for her performance as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd. She was honored by the International Opera Awards in 2016 (Young Female Prize) and in 2019 (Female Singer of the Year).
