Biography
Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka is one of the greatest opera singers of our time.
Since her international breakthrough at the Salzburg Festival in 2009 under the baton of Riccardo Muti, Marina Rebeka has been a regular guest in the most prestigious venues, including La Scala (Milan), the Paris Opera, the Metropolitan Opera (New York), Covent Garden (London), the Munich Opera, the Vienna State Opera and the Zurich Opera, among others.
She has collaborated with renowned conductors including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Valery Gergiev, Fabio Luisi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Daniele Gatti. The variety of her repertoire extends from baroque to Tchaikovsky and Britten, via bel canto and Verdi.
As a concert artist, Marina Rebeka has given recitals on many prestigious stages including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg and the Opernhaus Zürich.
The artist’s discography includes releases for Deutsche Grammohon, Warner Classics (EMI), BR Klassik and Naxos. She has recorded Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle; arias by Mozart; Amor fatale (arias by Rossini); the complete recordings of Verdi’s Luisa Miller and Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito.
For her own label Prima Classic, she has released Spirito (scenes and arias from dramatic bel canto); Verdi’s opera La Traviata; and her solo albums Elle (French opera arias) and Credo (a selection of sacred music). Marina Rebeka also sang the role of Imogene in the recording of Bellini’s Il Pirata – also on Prima Classic: the album was awarded the “Opera Recording of the Year” 2022 by the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA)
In December 2016, Marina Rebeka was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, the highest distinction of the Republic of Latvia, for her cultural achievements. In the 2017/18 season, she was appointed the first-ever Artist-in-Residence of the Münchner Rundfunkorchester. In 2020, she was named “Artist of the Year” by the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) and received the Latvian “Award for Excellence in Culture”. Finally, in 2021, she was awarded the first-ever Premio alla Carriera “Toti dal Monte”.
