
Marc Minkowski is an eminent French conductor, born in Paris in 1962, renowned for his masterly interpretations of French Baroque works.
From an early age, he stood out for his exceptional talent and, at just 19, founded the ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre. Under his visionary direction, this ensemble became a pillar of the baroque music revival, exploring the French repertoire in depth while opening up to works by Handel. Minkowski subsequently expanded his repertoire to include Mozart, Rossini, Offenbach and even Wagner.
His successful international career has taken him to the world's greatest musical institutions, where he is renowned for his precision, energy and ability to reveal the subtleties of the works he conducts. His rich and varied discography has been acclaimed and awarded many prestigious prizes. At the same time, Minkowski devotes himself to education, leading masterclasses and sharing his knowledge with the new generation of musicians, while at the same time engaging in initiatives to promote classical music to the general public.

Biography
Marc Minkowski comes from a scientific, musical and literary family with multiple origins. A trained bassoonist, he began conducting at a very young age, receiving instruction from Charles Bruck at the Pierre Monteux Memorial School in the United States.
General Director of the Opéra National de Bordeaux since 2016, Marc Minkowski founded the Ré Majeure festival in 2011 and was the Artistic Director of the Salzburg Mozartwoche from 2013 to 2017. He is also Artistic Advisor to the Kanazawa Orchestra (Japan).
Marc Minkowski began conducting at a very young age and founded Les Musiciens du Louvre at the age of 19, an ensemble that played an active part in the Baroque revival, and with which he explored the French and Handel repertoire, before tackling Mozart, Rossini, Offenbach and Wagner.
He regularly performs in Paris (Opéra National de Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet and Opéra Comique), at the Royal Opera House in London (Covent Garden), at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and at the Staatsoper in Berlin.
At the invitation of Gerard Mortier, he made his debut in Salzburg in 1997 (The Abduction from the Seraglio, Die Fledermaus, Mitridate, Così fan tutte, Lucio Silla and in 2019/2020 a first collaboration with Bob Wilson for The Messiah).
He has also been invited to Geneva (new production of Les Huguenots at the Grand Théâtre in 2019/2020), Brussels (La Cenerentola, Don Quixote, Les Huguenots, Il Trovatore), Zurich (Il Trionfo del Tempo, Giulio Cesare, Agrippina, Les Boréades, Fidelio, La Favorite), Venice (Le Domino noir), Moscow (Pelléas et Mélisande), Amsterdam (Roméo et Juliette by Gounod, Iphigénie en Aulide and Iphigénie en Tauride, Faust by Gounod), Vienna (Hamlet and The Flying Dutchman at the Theater an der Wien, Armide and Alcina at the Staatsoper), Aix-en-Provence (The Coronation of Poppea, The Marriage of Figaro, The Abduction from the Seraglio, Idomeneo, Don Giovanni and The Turk in Italy), San Francisco (Don Giovanni). He conducted the Mozart/Da Ponte Trilogy at the Drottningholm Festival and then at the Royal Opera of the Château de Versailles, from 2015. He has been a guest of symphony orchestras: Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, BBC SO, DSO Berlin, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, Mozarteum Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Swedish Radio Orchestra, Finnish Radio Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre du Théâtre Mariinsky, with whom his repertoire evolves towards the 19th and 20th centuries.
At the Opéra National de Bordeaux, he conducted in 2018/2019 ll Barbiere di Siviglia and Manon (revived at the Opéra Comique), and in 2019/2020 Ariodante and the Mozart/Da Ponte Trilogy. In addition, he regularly collaborates with Bordeaux educational institutions (Pôle d'Enseignement Supérieur Musique et Danse Bordeaux Aquitaine as well as the Bordeaux Conservatory) and presents in this context a Hortense Schneider Gala in the fall of 2019. In October 2018, Marc Minkowski was named Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honor.
