Find the complete 2025-2026 Teatro di San Carlo Season and book your tickets online now.

With its museums, history, Mount Vesuvius, and nearby Pompeii, Naples is an obvious tourist destination that holds great appeal for music lovers. The operatic life here has always been intense, with countless opera premieres taking place at the magnificent Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

A gem! The Teatro di San Carlo in Naples is one of the oldest opera houses in the world. The red and gold auditorium is built in the typical Italian horseshoe shape.

The Teatro San Carlo in Naples is undoubtedly Italy's most beautiful opera house (not forgetting, of course, Venice's Teatro La Fenice or Milan's La Scala). A visit to the capital of Campania should culminate in booking opera tickets to experience a performance in this legendary venue. The season offers a rich variety of ballet, opera, and concerts to choose from.

Naples is home to one of the world's first opera houses: the Teatro San Carlo, dating back to 1737. At the time of its construction, the theater could accommodate over 3,000 people, including 1,379 seated. This opera house, designed by Giovanni Antonio Medrano, exemplifies the royal splendor of Charles III of Bourbon with its golden and blue decorations.

The opera Achille in Sciro by Domenico Sarro inaugurated the theater, although the initial seasons mainly featured ballets, as per royal preference.

The Teatro di San Carlo became a premier European musical stage, attracting foreign musicians such as Haydn and Bach. Renowned composers like Gioachino Rossini and later Gaetano Donizetti held artistic directorship at the Teatro di San Carlo, composing numerous successful operas such as Maria Stuarda (1834) and Lucia di Lammermoor (1835).

Following Italy's unification in 1861, the Teatro di San Carlo lost some of its significance, with La Scala in Milan becoming Italy's new musical center.

Today, the Teatro di San Carlo offers operas, dance performances, and concerts of the highest quality every season. Tickets for performances at the Teatro di San Carlo are highly sought after due to the outstanding choice of performers and musicians, making the theater a true gem!
