Which are the must-see shows at the Liceu this season?

The travelling music lover wouldn't miss an evening at Barcelona's famous Liceu for the world. The theatre on La Rambla is a temple of opera but also of dance. It is the oldest theatre in Barcelona and is considered one of the most prestigious in the world.

The large and beautiful mythical hall of the Liceu, built in 1847, has been completely rebuilt after the terrible fire of 1994. The stage has been technically modernised and now holds over 2000 spectators. It is an Italian theatre in the shape of a horseshoe, like La Scala in Milan, with a parterre and five levels and today it is one of the largest halls in Europe.

It is here that the best operas of the international repertoire have been staged and that the greatest opera stars have performed, among them several Catalans, including Montserrat Caballé, Josep Carreras, etc.
