Biography
Sol Gabetta dazzles like a sun when she begins to delicately and voluptuously touch her violin and carries her audience into a wave of intense and captivating emotion.
Her adventure and passion for music began in the capital of Cordoba. Sol Gabetta then trained on the piano and cello at the age of only 4. Feeling a devouring passion for the violin, cello Gabetta continued her studies in Buenos Aires and perfected her talent with Leo Viola in Madrid, Spain, and Ivan Monighetti in Basel.
After winning her first prize in a music competition at the age of 10, cello Sol Gabetta became the winner of the ARD competition in Munich. A year after receiving the Borletti Buitoni Trust scholarship and the distinguished Crédit Suisse Young Artist Award, Sol Gabetta achieved international fame, particularly after her appearance at the Lucerne Festival where she played as a soloist alongside the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her collaboration with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra allowed her to quickly climb the ladder of fame. Performing in various countries (the United States, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, etc.), Sol Gabetta continues to fascinate her audience with her unique and original performances, such as her cello interpretation of the Vivaldi concerto. Her next destinations: Japan and Australia.
At the same time, Sol Gabetta won the Echo Prize in 2007 after the release of her first CD in which she gracefully interprets works by Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky and Ginastera, both romantic and modern. Her success does not stop there. Indeed, the violinist obtained a second Echo for Shostakovich's Second Concerto, which she performed with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
Wanting to share her passion for music, Gabetta began teaching and joined the Basel Academy of Music in 2005. Her collaboration with great composers such as Peteris Vasks helped her to magnificently perform prestigious 20th-century works such as Samuel Barber's concerto and Bohuslav Martinu's sonata. By collaborating with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Gabetta was able to play the Elgar Cello Concerto at the Rheingau Musik Festival in 2013.
In June 2006, Gabetta launched the Solsberg Festival in Switzerland and produced around ten concerts with her musician friends. Under the direction of her brother, Andrés Gabetta, the "Cappella Gabetta", the violinist formed a baroque orchestra in 2006 and performed the masterpieces of Antonio Vivaldi.
Overwhelmed by her unparalleled interpretations, the Rahn-Kulturfonds made a donation to her, allowing her to perform one of Giovanni Battista Quadagnini's greatest works from 1759 on the cello.
