1745: Louis XV marries his son, the Dauphin Louis, with the Spanish Infanta Maria Theresa. For the festivities of these Royal Noces, a new work commissioned by Rameau is given in the Great Stable of Versailles, transformed into a temporary theater: the operatic comedy Platée.
This great opera buffoon in which the gods play a frog by making her believe that she is loved by Jupiter, is probably the most extraordinary comedy in music of the eighteenth century French - even if the audience of the premiere believed recognize the ugly little Spanish princess in the crook heroine!
Exceptional score, which sits inventive and unexpected rhythms on a dazzling orchestra, and gives his share of Italian virtuosity to Madness, while the title role composes a unique character in the lyrical history, entrusted to a high-against whom must be ready to play as a Queen of the Swamp Frog ... The infernal trio Niquet, Shirley and Dino, after having avenged Purcell in King Arthur and rejuvenated Boismortier thanks to Don Quixote, now puts on his boots and goes down to the marsh of Platée for give it a zany version - and "historically informed", as it should!
