What are the must-see shows at the Festspielhaus this season?

It's no secret that the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus has set its sights on excellence to attract audiences from all over the world, and it's more than won. For many seasons now, the German venue has been one of the most important thanks to its perfect programming, inviting prestigious orchestras and unmissable international soloists.

The programme is organised around four festivals: Whitsun week, summer, autumn and winter, with at least one staged opera and numerous classical concerts each time. Three or four times a year, the festival hall hosts renowned dance companies.

The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden is Germany's largest opera and concert hall with a capacity of 2,500. Its architecture is unique: the opera house was created on the tracks of a former railway station, whose neoclassical building now forms the entrance to the Festspielhaus. In the mid-1990s, the Viennese architect Wilhelm Holzbauer designed the new stage building with its light-filled foyer. The excellent acoustics of the hall are the result of calculations by the renowned Munich physicist Karlheinz Müller.
