It can not be said enough, Prague has a selection of opera singers worthy of the biggest international halls. Resident artists sing all the works of the repertoire, the great classical operas of Verdi, Puccini or Mozart, as well as the superb operas of Dvořák, Janáček or Smetana. There are plenty of opportunities to discover the splendid Czech capital and it is an absolute must to include a visit to the opera to attend a show.

Prague is a capital of classical music and one of the few capitals to have no less than three important halls, the Národní divadlo, the Státní opera and the Stavovské divadlo or in English: the National Theater, the State Opera and the State Theater. This season the Státní opera is closed but all the performances will take place in another hall, the Hudební divadlo Karlín (The Musical Theater of Karlín) usually devoted to operettas. You can book your tickets for any of the three operas in Prague because the voices are of exceptional quality.

If you are looking for a historical thrill, you should preferably go to the Stavovské divadlo where Mozart played during his lifetime. If you are fond of the big repertoire, the Hudební divadlo Karlín is the ideal choice. Finally, to discover the Czech repertoire, you should go to the Národní divadlo.

The Národní divadlo (the National Theater) is undoubtedly the most expensive hall in the heart of Prague. Last season, we celebrated the great composer Bedrich Smetana but it is really in 2018-2019 that his operas are on display with new productions of Libuse and Dalibor. The Bartered Bride, his most famous masterpiece is of course in reprise. Other leading figures like Dvorák and Janácek are also present.

The Czech music school has left great works like the superb Rusalka of Dvorák or the dramas of Janácek (Jenufa) but also other, equally strong works of different content like The Cunning Little Vixen and the satirical Excursions of Mr. Broucek by Janácek or Dvorák's The Devil and Kate, to discover.

Great classical ballets are also on display at the opera in Prague with a company of great merits. La Fille mal gardée and The Nutcracker and especially Swan Lake are sure values, just like this evening dedicated to the great choreographer Jirí Kylián or George Balanchine. The great titles of the opera are there, Carmen de Bizet, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly and Tosca by Puccini, Aida, A ballo in maschera and Macbeth by Verdi but also Lohengrin by Wagner.

We must not neglect works less visited but equally interesting as Andrea Chénier the great Verdi opera Giordano or the famous Werther by Massenet, for a romantic touch. Great fans will rejoice with rarely performed operas such as this new production by Jonny spielt auf by Krenek and Prokofiev's The Love of Three Oranges, one of the great masterpieces of this composer.
