Turin, the fourth-largest city in Italy, remains a hidden gem for visitors who often choose Rome, Venice, Florence, Naples or Milan instead. Yet the elegant capital of Piedmont is home to a wealth of historic palaces, impressive buildings, and magnificent squares and gardens. The famous Mole Antonelliana, which towers over the city, houses the National Cinema Museum, renowned far beyond Italy’s borders, while the Palazzo del Collegio dei Nobili is home to the second-largest Egyptian collection in the world after Cairo.

The journey opens with Richard Strauss’s Salome, a fascinating and intoxicating work conducted by Axel Kober and staged by Kornél Mundruczó, featuring Johanni Van Oostrum, John Daszak, Jennifer Larmore, Gábor Bretz and Matthew Newlin.

The following day, violist Tabea Zimmermann and pianist Javier Perianes bring Schumann, Brahms, Britten and Shostakovich into dialogue in a recital of rare sensitivity. Finally, Ottavio Dantone conducts the Rai National Symphony Orchestra in a rich and varied programme ranging from Haydn to Fauré and Ravel.
