Presented at La Fenice for the first time, Antonio Smareglia’s Nozze istriane is a hidden gem of Italian opera. Blending love, jealousy and tragedy, this refined score captures the colours and atmosphere of Istria. A rare and rewarding discovery for opera lovers.
Formerly Teatro di San Giovanni, it acquired the name of the famous singer after she donated her fee to the director at the end of a performance of La Sonnambula, for the refurbishment of the concert hall.
First opened in 1678, it was Venice’s most important theatre before the opening of La Fenice.
It now hosts some performances of Teatro la Fenice’s season.
