Along with La Bohème and Madama Butterfly, Tosca is Puccini's most famous opera. First performed in Rome in 1900, the work has remained popular with audiences ever since. Its heroic tone, historical setting and exuberant musical invention, with over 60 original themes, have contributed greatly to its success.
