Harboring a strong passion for opéra, the city entered music history with pomp at the end of the eighteenth century, when, after having triumphantly welcomed Mozart's Nozze di Figaro, the Viennese composer retumed to premiere his Don Giovanni in 1787, which is why Mozart is still on every season’s programme.
The theatre, inaugurated in 1783, was later directed by Weber, and opera is still performed in this house, today called the Statovské Divaldo.
Near the Old City square, it is one of the finest theatres in central Europe.
