Il Tovatore, Verdi's magnificent opera, performed by the greatest opera artists! Although accustomed to very successful arias, Verdi certainly wrote the most elegant and beautiful pages of all his operas in this Trouvère. Between the tenor's valiant part and the soprano's elegiac arias, the composer created unforgettable characters.

The four-act opera, with libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, was inspired by Antonio Garcia Gutiérrez's successful Spanish drama El Trovador. Premiered on 19 January 1853 at Rome's Teatro Apollo, it quickly became immensely popular. It was such a success that the director of the Paris Opera commissioned Verdi to write a French version. This new score, complete with ballet in the "Grand Opéra" style, was first performed at La Monnaie in Brussels and then in Paris at the Salle Le Peletier on 12 January 1857. Today, the original Italian version has established itself on international stages.
This major work demands a remarkable performance from the singers, who interpret complex and contrasting characters. Verdi's vocal writing highlights his immense maturity as a lyrical and romantic dramatist.
