What are the must-see performances at Opera Antwerpen this season?

Flanders Opera is the largest cultural venue in Flanders, together with Ballet Vlaanderen, and regularly presents world-class productions. The building was built in 1907 according to the plans of the architects Alexis van Mechelen and Emile van Averbek.

The Neo-baroque building with its sumptuous Louis XVI style decoration was an immediate success. The oval foyer is covered with pink marble and the paintings are by Emile Vloors. The foyer is the only room in the opera house to have been completely renovated to improve acoustics. The amphitheatre-shaped main hall seats 1006 people. The ceiling, by Karel Mertens, represents an allegory of rhythm embodied by a man surrounded by the muses.
