The biggest country in the southern hemisphere has several opera companies, of which the most famous is the Opera Australia. Founded in 1996, the institution was established from the Melbourne Arts Center and the Sydney Opera House, two of Australia's biggest venues. The season is balanced between the two cities but productions are often created in Sydney. The company then takes its winter quarters in Melbourne where the season generally concentrates from May to November. Depending on the requirements of the artists, the distribution may not be the same from one city to another but the quality is always guaranteed. For several years, following a growing demand in Sydney, an extra opera production is proposed outside the walls, on a floating stage in the bay. The beautiful autumn evenings in March and April are suitable to open-air shows with the iconic opera and the harbor bridge in the background.
