The charming seaside town of Pesaro, located on the Adriatic coast of the Marche region between the sea and the mountains, celebrates its prodigal son Gioachino Rossini every summer. The Rossini Festival in Pesaro is not only one of the largest festivals in the world, but it has also led to an impressive number of rediscoveries of the opera master's works. A hundred kilometres away, nestled on a hill, the beautiful city of Macerata is an architectural treasure trove with a real gem. The Sferisterio is an astonishing and gigantic amphitheatre-like structure with ideal acoustics for opera performances.
During this trip, music lovers will be delighted by two great masterpieces in the breathtaking setting of the Sferisterio in Macerata. Verdi's Nabucco is on the bill in a new production by the brilliant director Paul-Emile Fourny. Another magnificent production, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) by the sparkling director Daniele Menghini, is the perfect counterpart to the performances in Pesaro.
For all lovers of Rossini and Italian music, the Pesaro Festival is above all a must-see event! The programme for this trip includes the best of the 2026 edition with the revival of a great classic, L'occasione fa il ladro, directed by the great Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and first staged in 1987, and the more recent (2009) production of La scala di seta by the imaginative Damiano Michieletto. The other show on the programme is the eagerly awaited new production of Il seduto di Corinto, directed by Davide Livermore, a regular at the Rossini Opera Festival.
To enhance your stay in the most beautiful way possible, a guided tour of Pesaro is available on various themes, such as Villa ‘Imperiale’ or the Rossini itinerary in Pesaro (Casa Natale, Rossini Conservatory, ‘Museo Nazionale Rossini’).
