NEW YEAR'S EVE
Trip to Leipzig from Saturday December 29th 2018 to Tuesday January 01st 2019, 3 nights,
organised by our partner Euridice Opéra
When we think about Leipzig, Bach's name immediately comes first. The famous Cantor spent most of his life in the beautiful city of Saxony. The visitor who walks in the streets and discovers its monuments will be delighted to find the same places that the great composer has frequented as the Nikolaikirche or especially the Thomaskirche. Another symbolic place, the famous restaurant Auerbachs Keller is the tavern that inspired Goethe (other famous lipsian). He placed in this setting a famous scene of his Faust, a universal masterpiece. Leipzig is also an intense cultural life with outstanding museums such as the Grassimuseum, an amazing Museum of Fine Arts, the Stadtgeschichtliche Museum (about the history of the city) located in the beautiful building of the old town hall. Another emblematic place, the central station is impressive.
With the Museum für Musikinstrumente (one of the largest collections of instruments in Europe), music lovers will be filled because Schumann and Mendelssohn's Houses can be visited as the Bach-Museum, a must. The city is obviously imbued with music with a long and beautiful tradition. The Bachfest Leipzig is known around the world as is the Gewandhausorchester, eternally associated with the name of Felix Mendelssohn who founded with Robert Schumann, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater. For the lyrical planet, Leipzig is also home to Richard Wagner.
A stay in Leipzig is a must for all true classical music lover and this New Year weekend is particularly conducive. It offers the opportunity to visit the two major institutions of the city. At the opera, the gala offered by the chef Ulf Schirmer promises to live a unique evening with the great classical tunes and also ballet and some masterpieces of the operetta. At the Gewandhaus, the outstanding conductor Andris Nelsons performs Beethoven's Symphony 9, one of the most anticipated concerts of the season.
