The Crusaders Courtyard in the Fortress is part of Akko or Acre history.
Akko is one of the oldest sites on the Mediterranean coast, back to Early Bronze Age through to Hellenistic, Roman-Byzantine and Ottoman periods.
Legend says that King Solomon wrote there The Song of Songs.
It is home to 5 major religions Bahai, Christian, Druse, and Muslims.
The fortified town boasts many sites of interest that reflect its rich cultural heritage, including the Hospitallers Knight’s, the citadel, Baha’i holy shrines originating from the Ottoman period, the Hamam al-Basha but also churches, synagogues and mosques.
A walk through centuries on the Mediterranean sea shoreof this city which became at the XII century the main port of the Easter Mediterranean and the the main origin of the wealth of the kingdom of Jerusalem. The city fell to Saladin’s troops in 1187 but was recaptured by the Third Crusade, led by King Richard I of England and King Philip II of France.
