Hamburg, the Belle of the North, can be proud of its success as an international city of culture. For some years now, the city has been in a state of perpetual flux, brimming with artistic and architectural creations, symbolised by the futuristic construction of the Elbphilharmonie. The wealth of the Hanseatic era is still reflected today in its many private mansions. Water is everywhere. It shapes the city, especially the old town, which is built around a real lake.
Bach's music, universal, moves music lovers whether they are immersed in spirituality or not. On the occasion of the Easter weekend, his two Passions, absolute masterpieces of sacred music, are in the spotlight in Hamburg. Pygmalion, one of the most sublime baroque ensembles, performs the St. John Passion at the prestigious Elbphilharmonie, under the intense direction of Raphaël Pichon. The Staatsoper offers a dense experience with the St. Matthew Passion danced by the feverish company of John Neumeier. Two exceptional evenings to experience emotions and a memory as poignant as it is unforgettable.
Another highlight of the trip is a private guide who will take you on a tour of Hamburg, with a choice of: the historic Speicherstadt district, Hafen City, a futuristic district, the famous St Pauli district or BallinStadt, Hamburg's emigration museum.
