Synopsis
The Queen of Spades
The Queen of Spades is an opera by Tchaikovsky. His most famous performances are Farnes Richard 5 times and Jurowski Vladimir 3 times. This work is often performed at the Mariinsky Theatre or Komische Oper.
Perhaps better known as The Queen of Spades, Tchaikovsky's opera, composed in 1890, offers an exciting dive into the world of Russian fairy tales. The libretto of the opera, written by the composer's brother, is itself inspired by a short story by the great Russian writer Pushkin. Like all of Tchaikovsky's musical works, Pikovaya Dama is a surprising blend of Western influences and Russian traditions, but it is also the composer's darkest and most melancholic creation. This opera will enchant enthusiasts and connoisseurs, but will also charm neophytes.
The action takes place in the city of Saint Petersburg during the Age of Enlightenment. The opera features the character of Hermann, convinced that wealth will allow him to marry the beautiful Lisa. To achieve his goal, he will go as far as murder and, haunted by remorse, will sink into the madness of gambling.
