Mozart Week 2020
Each year around the time of Mozart's birthday in January, the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg hosts the Mozart Week with opera performances, orchestra and chamber concerts as well as soloist recitals. World-renowned artists, soloists, orchestras and ensembles specialized in the interpretation of Mozart stand for the unparalleled reputation of this unique event.
Mozart lives. This is the common thread that links all of the Mozart Week Festivals from 2019 to 2023, all of which have been planned by Rolando Villazón as the festival’s new intendant. These five festivals constitute an exploration of the world of the genius loci and are devoted exclusively to his music. “Mozart brings people together through the universal power of his music,” Rolando Villazón explains. “At a time when strident voices are trying to tear us apart and drown out what unites us as human beings, we have created the vision of a Mozart Week Festival that is sustained by Mozart’s spirit of communion, togetherness and integration.” Rolando Villazón’s first Mozart Week Festival in 2019 features more than sixty events, including three lavishly staged productions, orchestral concerts, chamber music, dance, mime, cabaret and much more besides, all of them illustrating how relevant and vital Mozart continues to be for us today.
