Otello
OTELLO, A LYRIC DRAMA
This opera is a lyric drama by the famous Italian composer Verdi that was composed in 1887 at La Scala in Milan based on the homonymous drama by William Shakespeare. This opera was born from the collaboration of the famous composer and the poet musician Arrigo Boito. The story of the opera is a tragic story composed in four acts that took Verdi nearly six years. And for good reason, the opera completely renewed lyric art by offering it its notes of nobility.
The story takes place on the island of Cyprus at the time when the eponymous warlord finds his wife Desdemona. But the young Moorish leader will soon pay the price of the voracious hatred of his lieutenant, Iago, who, little by little, will instill the poison of doubt in the mind of his leader, convincing him that his wife, Desdemona, is cheating on him with his other lieutenant, Cassio.
The young Moorish warlord returns to the island of Cyprus after his victory over the Saracens. His lieutenant, Iago, a true incarnation of evil, starts a fight in order to compromise Lieutenant Cassio in the eyes of his leader. But his action goes even further in time since it will serve his purpose, that of destroying his leader. He finds his young wife Desdemona again.
